January Feast

I did a fair bit of eating out this month. This was out of the ordinary, since my family and I usually cook and eat at home. These were some of my favorite meals of January.

J'ai fait un peu juste de manger à l'extérieur de ce mois. Ce fut hors de l'ordinaire, car ma famille et j'ai l'habitude de cuisiner et de manger au home. These étaient certains de mes plats préférés de Janvier.

  • Sushi boat
  • Classic Italian Quizno sub
  • Spicy sate beef vermicelli soup
  • Strawberry, pinapple (another fruit that I don't remember) bubble tea with juicy pearls
  • Salad rolls

The long road/La longue route

I took the long road to get here
That was my mistake, but I don't care
I made a wrong turn a mile or so back
It threw me off, set things out of whack
I could have followed the others ahead
But that would mean passing you instead
You were the destination; the place I want to be
I'm sorry for the wait; will you still love me?

-----

Tasty/Savoureux

The mouth waters for sweets and cake.
The mind says, "darling, take a break."
The eyes they feast. The heart it swells
The stomach says, "I don't feel so well."

My eyes more than my stomach want to devour all these tasties. I think I may post desserts regularly, since I rarely get to eat any. My family doesn't bake in bunches and when I go out to eat dessert doesn't seem to make it onto my bill (of course when I eat alone, it's always dessert first).

Yesstyle Haul/Review. Pic Heavy.

Chictopia gave me a promocode for yesstyle.ca, and seeing as how I always wanted to buy items from there, I went on a shopping spree buying practically a new wardrobe from the site. My items came within about 2 weeks. The video below shows an unboxing of the items the day I recieved the package.

My experience with yesstyle was a pleasant one. All the items were true to their description. I was in fact surprised by how nice they looked in person and on. The only con (mostly due to my error) was yesstyle sent me two of the exact same belt. My invoice showed I ordered two, but I don't recall seeing two in my cart before my checkout. I know I had wanted another belt, but instead I recieved two of the same belt.

All my items fit well. Considering that mostly everything I bought was described as onesize, I was a bit nervous, but they all fit. I have tried to include links to all the items in the haul but everything was bought on sale so some of them may be sold out.

Dolman Sleeve Knit Top
This was a set piece that came with a necklace. It is supposed to be baggy and is longer than expected. It can be worn as a mini dress.

Set: Shorts+Belt+Tights

I love this set piece. I was really nervous it would not fit but the elastic on the shorts makes it a good fit for those small-medium. The tights are warm and are better quality than more expensive tights I've bought. The belt is cheap and does not seem like it would last long, but it works with the set.

Inset Lace Top Chiffon Dress
Very sheer, but pretty non the less, this dress is chiffon dress with a lace top sewn in. This picture distorts the color, but in person it is more of a light peachy pink.

Braided Buckle Elasticized Belt
This is the belt I recieved two of. I like it, but I wish I had caught that there were two in my cart.

Girl Print Pullover

This is possibly my favorite item. It is very warm and I love the pockets on the side.

Wool Blend Miniskirt
Set: Drop Shoulder Top + Scarf
The scarf on this top can be removed. This lets you wear it without a scarf, or add your own. I love the skirt and was pleasantly surprised to find it wasn't as boxy as the photo on yesstyle appeared.

Red Buckled Twist Lock Satchel
This bag is not made to last, but it is cute and I love the velvet feeling material combined with with the faux leather. The cloth material seems as if it would hold up, but the leather part is very cheap feeling and looking. While it looks medium sized, it carries a lot. My entire yesstyle haul fits in it! :)

Moments of my day Jan 8

I feel I go months without seeing my friends. Perhaps that's why the opportunity arises to see them I jump on it. This was a day of shopping for my friend and I. We grabbed some sushi to kill the hungry pains and then it was back to shopping and walking around, while I clipped random into my camera, in case my memory let me down. I have a video where I share the items I bought on this day.

Marie Antoinette's Love Letters Lounge

Marie Antoinette's Love Letters Lounge

Simply lovely. I came across this chair and ottoman when I was looking for letter shaped accessories. The look of postage always catches my eye and this was an instanst love. It is the print more than the shape of the pieces themselves that I adore. I feel as if I am reading a secret letter written centuries before my birth.

Popping Out Procrastination

I read somewhere that one way to get rid of procrastination is to give yourself more to do. I questioned this at first, thinking about how I tend to do next to nothing when I have so much to do. But I was curious to see if it might work.

I'm generally a "busy" person. I have school work, employment work, friends to meet, appointments to keep, stuff to do. I'm also someone that doesn't put things off for too long. If I have an assignment due at the end of the month, you can bet that it will be in by the second last week at the latest. But I noticed I tend to drag my feet at times, doing nothing for days or making minor attempts at being productive. It's not that I wanted to be more busy, but I did want the feeling of getting something done each and every day. Therefore, I took the article's advice and gave myself more to do.

I started another blog, took another course, made more plans with my friends.

At first, I felt the same feeling of being overwhlemed and thus doing nothing. I also got very sick and couldn't do anything. With more on my plate, this only put me further behind making me feel stressed.

But somehow, without my notice, I was doing more and doing better at the things I was doing. I was too busy to put it off for another day. The strangest part was, I didn't feel exhausted. Tired, perhaps, but not dead from the weight of all the things I had to do.

I was puzzeled considering I was always busy. I always had things to do. I was always telling myself to get things done, making lists of task and forcing myself to get things done. There's no force now. I'm simply doing things.

I still don't know why it works, but it does. It's not as if I'm rushing around trying to do 10 things in a day, I'm doing maybe 5 and getting them done without complaining or dread, even tasks I hate. It's as if I pop the procrastination bubble before it gets too large and makes me lag for days.

My friends who aren't procrastinators, I notice have very busy scheduals. They usually have full plates and are juggling multiple day to day routines. They work, attend class, have several hobbies, volunteer and make time for their loved ones. It's as if the body gets programed to get up and moving when the mind keeps prompting it with more tasks. You find yourself completeling things you used to put off for days.

I'm not sure if it will work for everyone. I'm still surprised it worked for me. But if you tend to procrastinate, try giving yourself a few more things to do. This is not to say you should overload yourself. That isn't healthy. But within reason, add one of two more things to your things to do list. You may find yourself getting more done.

Who is spirtually secure?

A person who obeys God in everything and always does what is right, whose words are true and sincere, and who does not slander others. He does no wrong to his friends and does not spred rumours about his neighbors. He always does what he promises, no matter how much it may cost. He makes loans without charging interest and cannot be bribed to testify against the innocent. Whoever does these things will always be secure.

----

A shopping we will go

You'd think I'd be all shopped out with all the shopping I did in December, but with all the sales and promos being in my path it's no wonder I've been filling my cart, online and off with lovlies. I've been trying my best to stay within budget despite my sudden shopping surge, and I've been paying attention, making sure to buy things I will cherish for quite some time, or need badly.

Because I've been stung by shopping bee, I'll most likely be doing a few posts similar to this where I showcase (show off?) items I've purchased.

The video shows and describes the items I bought for this paticular haul. One place I will be shopping more at are local asian shops. They always have cute items that suit my taste.

Grey Days of Comfort

The skys are blue but I am grey. Dark greys woven  and knitted with warmth tuck in the winter chill. I wore this outfit to run around town, and felt cozy and comfortable. I had to add some contrast to all the dark. I went with a white snake skin belt, which added more texture and saved me from looking like onimous clouds before a thunder storm.

The grey was only on the outside. Inside my forcast is sunny.

Moments From My Day

I often feel like a tourist in my city. This may be because I don't go out very often. As a result, everything always look new and exciting, even places I frequent-- like the grocery store in the video.

I always look at other people's blog photos and wonder, "where did they find that spot?" My sister found a photo bloggers spot a while ago and drove me to see. Though we were in my city, the ride felt amusingly toursy. A bit like taking a ride through the country in a foreign country.

Imagine your city through the eyes of a traveler and you'll most likely gain a new sense of enthusiam for it. Exploring doesn't always entail going to new lands; sometimes it means getting a different perspective.

Moments from day

I was more ambitious in my mind than in body today. More time was spent thinking of all things I should do than doing anything. I let lavender fill a tub and played with silken bubbles. The most important thing I did was to write my penpal. I appologize for the long delay Azed.

Moments from my day

There are times when I don't feel like compromising or waiting for a better day. Today was one of those days. I had an idea in mind of what I wanted from my day and decided to bring it forth. Sometimes your day dictates to you and sometimes you need to dictate to your day "this is how it's going to be!" My day listened.

I started by telling my day I wanted a thrifted mini backpack. My sister was kind enough to drive me out to the store and low and behold a Derek Alexander leather mini backpack was waiting for me. It was a steal at only 2 dollars. I also bought a long button down vest for $2.50. And my sister found a large stylish carpet bag for $4.00. Needless to say it was a good thrifting day.

I also decided today I was going to eat Mcdonalds. Without giving a care to nutrition or fat content, I indugled and felt very pleased about it. But while smiling at my meal, strawberry punch poured in my sister's car landing on my favorite trench. I guess it was my day's way of saying, "you can't have it all perfect." No bother. I'm too happy about the comment my professor left on my final paper to mind any spills and mishaps.

In fact I am posting her comment here, because I may never see a pleasant review of a graded work again. That and it may motivate me the next time I stress about a paper.

Dear Adelaide,

This is an excellent paper and a pleasure to read. I have pointed to certain sreas that could use more careful thinking and questioning; however, you have pulled together key contexts in evaluating the issue of individual rights and freedoms and the controls in place.

Best of luck in your future endeavours.

Romita

Natural ways to boost your energy

Your energy level can depend on how much you live life.  True, we all come with different levels; some people are always ready to take on the world, while others never seem to have enough energy to get through the day. But we all want to be excited about life and be able to do all the things we love. If you could use a boost in energy consider the following.

Escape the sugar trap
Sugar gives a jolt of energy, but it is short lasting and you will pay later. A burst of sugar flooding your blood cues the body to secrete insulin, which rounds the sugar up for storage. Your sugar high then becomes a sugar low. Choose complex carbohydrates that are released into the bloodstream slower.

Try yoga
While this won’t magically give you energy, it releases the energy you have by releasing pent-up tension in the body. Tension is energy that’s blocked, when you release it you make the energy you have useable.

Meditate
Sitting quietly in a relaxed position with your eyes shut, repeating a simple word over and over again while shutting out distracting thoughts can reduce the body’s response to stress. This state of restful alertness you achieve through meditation is the optimum state of functioning. Meditation can help you feel perfectly relaxed and invigorated at the same time.

Take a shower
The water temperature doesn’t matter. It’s the falling water that gives you a kick. There is a special thing found in falling water, it’s called a negative ion. This is a molecule that adopted an extra electron. For people who are ion sensitive it's nature’s little pick me up. High concentrations of negative ions in the air lower the levels of a brain chemical called serotonin, which in turn makes us more cheerful and energetic.

Take vitamin C
Medical studies have suggested that people whose diets are lacking in vitamin C fatigue more quickly than those whose intakes are high. However, you can’t just take vitamin C and expect it to act like a pep pill. It will only be effective if your lack of energy is the result of a nutritional lack.

Eat a good breakfast
You can use up 500-600 calories getting a good night’s sleep. You may not wake up hungry but your body has been depleted of the vitamins and minerals that give you the energy to tackle a brand new day. Not eating breakfast results in feeling headachy.

Give yourself something to look forward to
Anticipation of good things to come can give you a burst of energy. When you are looking forward to things, especially when pursuing a valued goal you liven up, have more energy, and concentrate better.

Get away from it all
Taking a vacation is a surefire way to recharge. Getting away from it all gets you out of your rut.

Moments from my day: Jan 3, 2012

The early bird catches the worm, but then she finds herself feeling tired at midmorn and goes back to bed. I decided to get a jump start on my day before lady lazy put her usual spell on me. I uploaded a review of some charlotte russe lace-up ankle boots I recieved as a gift to give my self a feeling of acomplishment. I made some cookies for breakfast. They weren't for me since they had nuts. I did it to be a brat and serve my family cookies rather anything nutitious. Life is too short...have dessert first (as in first thing in the morning :P ). A collection of candles is taking over my room, so I decided to burn one all day long. The smell of sweet cranberry follows me through my home.
